STAREE (www.staree.org.au) is a double-blind, randomised primary prevention trial investigating whether daily active treatment of Atorvastatin versus placebo will enhance disability-free survival (death, dementia and disability) and prevent major cardiovascular outcomes in healthy participants aged 70 years and over. The trial is primarily funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia.
An exciting opportunity for a Clinical Trial Officer to join the ‘STAtins in Reducing Events in the Elderly’ (STAREE) clinical trial located in Canberra. The successful candidate will be responsible for approaching and liaising with GPs to join as a co-investigator in the study.
The main responsibility of the Clinical Trial Officer will be directly supporting the STAREE principal investigators and project manager in all aspects of conduct and implementation of a clinical trial. The Clinical Trial Officer will also liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including physicians and nursing staff at general practices and/or hospitals and trial participants. The incumbent will be responsible for a large region in ACT and some regional NSW. Some overnight stays may be required.
The initial focus of the position is with inviting GPs into the study. Once the site is established the successful applicant will deliver the study visits with participants.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of having the ability to solve problems by using innovation and exercising diagnostic skills within areas of functional responsibility or professional expertise, have the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy environment and a high level of written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. You should enjoy travelling and be confident in approaching general practice clinics and working with participants.
This position will involve travel to various locations, some of which are not easily accessible via public transport.
